Horizontal Mailbox – Horizontal Wall Mount Mailboxes

Horizontal mailboxes come in various designs and styles.  Generally, a horizontal mailbox is installed next to the entry of their home.  Wall mounted mail boxes are available in numerous shapes, sizes and styles.

A wall mount mail box is generally installed by the front entry door of your home.  Installing these boxes may require the use of mounting screws, a drill and anchors.  These can be mounted horizontally or vertically.  Wall mounted boxes are available in styles ranging from Victorian to modern. Wall mounted boxes are generally constructed of highly durable plastics, brass, wrought iron, galvanized metals or stainless steel and most are rust resistant.

Mailbox accessories for the wall mount mail box include a newspaper holder. The holder should not interfere with the delivery of the mail or obstruct the view of the mailbox flag.  For many wall mounted boxes, the newspaper holder and mailbox are all one piece and are exempt from the U.S. Postal Service code.  Other accessories include name plates, mailbox lights, and mail chimes to alert the homeowner when their mail is delivered.  An important accessory for any mailbox is a locking mechanism.  Mailbox locks help to curtail identity theft, mail theft, and vandalism.

Installing a wall box is easy. Most manufacturers provide a step-by-step installation guide for easy mounting. Another important feature that is easily overlooked is how much sound it generates when the lid closes. Mailbox lids should not sound like a gun being fired in the house when the flap slams shut!  Many wall boxes incorporate a mechanism to allow the lid to close softly for quiet operation.  The U.S. Postal Service does not govern wall mount boxes, however, you should notify your local mail carrier before installation to ensure proper placement of the mailbox and check for any local codes or regulations governing placement of the box.
