Mail theft is the largest growing type of all thefts. To help curtail identity mail theft, many homeowners are installing an aluminum secure mailbox to secure their mail and to keep would-be thieves at bay. An aluminum locking mail box will help to deter most thieves from stealing your mail.

Many mailboxes are available with a built-in locking mechanism. If your mailbox is not equipped with a lock or some type of secure device, you can purchase one from several online sources. A lock is essential for deterring mail thieves and extremely important when the homeowner is away for several days and unable to retrieve the mail. Also note that the U.S. Postal Service will not open locked mailboxes nor will they accept a key for that purpose.

Locks to secure your mail can be installed on various types and styles of mailboxes. Many aluminum type mailboxes can also withstand typical mailbox abuse from bats, rocks, canned goods and accidental blows from a snowplow. A snowplow can hit a mailbox and scatter its contents everywhere if the mailbox is not secure. When installing a lock on an existing mailbox, make sure your mailbox is strong enough to withstand an attack.

Locking mailboxes should be large enough so that if the homeowner is away for several days, it can accommodate the overflow of mail and keep the mail secure. When searching for a suitable locking mailbox choose one with a heavy duty lock that cannot easily be pried open. It defeats the purpose of having a lock if someone can easily open it with a screwdriver.

The mailbox should also be constructed of durable material than cannot be damaged or opened with a saw, hammer, knife or any other type of destructive device. Remember, when selecting a locking mailbox, look for one that has a strong lock, the box should be made of durable type material that will not break under pressure from bat-wielding hooligans or snowplows and has a secure mail slot large enough to accommodate your daily volume of mail.

Many consumers need big mail boxes to keep up with the large demand of incoming mail. No one wants to receive mangled mail that was shoved into their tiny mailbox. A large mailbox is just what they need.

Larger mailboxes are needed to cope with the trend towards bigger pieces of mail. Large mailboxes are just that, they are large. They are designed to hold several days worth of mail so the homeowner doesn’t have to check the mail every day. Most of the large mailboxes come equipped with a locking mechanism to deter mail theft.

Some consumers use large mailboxes so they can receive oversize catalogs and magazines without the edges getting crinkled or torn pages. Most large mailboxes are available as post mounted boxes, and many come as a one-piece set.

Some large mailboxes are also available as wall mount. Many oversize mailboxes are manufactured from highly durable plastics, galvanized metals or steel. Some of the wall mounted boxes are of the rectangle variety and many are beautifully decorated with distinctive styles.

When erecting an oversize mailbox, the box should be positioned near the edge of the driveway (just like a regular size box) and away from sprinklers. The approach to the mailbox should be clear of obstacles to allow safe access for mail delivery. The box should be approximately 42 to 46 inches tall. Every mailbox must prominently display the owner’s name, street number and street name in letters at least one inch high on the side of the box with the flag (or on the door if the mailboxes are grouped). Installing a large mail box is an easy solution to many homeowner’s problem of the increasing amount of daily mail.

The Oasis locking mailbox is perfect for deterring most would-be mail thieves. Oasis locking mailboxes will not only help to curtail mail theft but also will look great by your curbside.

Locking mailboxes help curtail mail theft, secure their mail and keep would-be thieves at bay. The Oasis mailbox is a U.S. Postal Service approved mailbox made of heavy duty steel. It stands approximately 20 inches high, 13.5 inches long and 18.5 inches deep. It accepts both mail and small parcel. There is also a matching post for your convenience.

For homeowners who need mailboxes grouped together, the Oasis spreader bar mounts on top of the Oasis post so two or three Oasis locking mailboxes can be mounted together. The Oasis mailbox features a durable built-in locking mechanism in the front for access to the mail. A lock is essential for deterring mail thieves and extremely important when the homeowner is away for several days and unable to retrieve the mail. Also note that the U.S. Postal Service will not open locked mailboxes nor will they accept a key for that purpose.

Your new locking mailbox should be able to withstand typical mailbox abuse from bats, rocks, canned goods and accidental blows from a snowplow. A snowplow can hit a mailbox and scatter its contents everywhere if the mailbox is not secure. Your secure mailboxes should be large enough so that if the homeowner is away for several days, it can accommodate the overflow of mail and keep the mail secure.

Remember, when selecting a locking mailbox, look for one that has a strong lock, the box should be made of durable type material that will not break.

Vandal Resistant Mail Box – Keep Vandals at Bay!

Many homeowners are plagued with mischievous mailbox vandalism and errant snow plow drivers. Several companies offer a strong, vandal-proof mail box which is designed to withstand this type of abuse.

A vandal resistant mail box is more expensive than the typical standard mailbox, but more cost-effective in the long run. If you can’t afford one of the more expensive models, then you might want to consider keeping half-dozen less expensive boxes on hand for replacement. Strong vandal resistant mail boxes are built to resist the typical vandal abuse.

If you are plagued with bat-wielding teenagers playing mailbox baseball in your area, then a standard mailbox is probably not for you. Standard or novelty boxes are wonderful for displaying your sense of style and flair but offer little resistance when it comes to a bat and vehicle traveling at 50 mph!

Many durable, heavy-duty mailboxes are available from online retailers. These mail boxes, made from reinforced galvanized steel, are perfect for deterring vandalism. Be cautious when attempting to create your own vandal-proof mailbox. The post office discourages this practice for a number of reasons. First, many home made mailboxes are not U.S. Postal approved and therefore the mail carrier may not place your mail in the box. Second, if the mail carrier gets cut or receives a splinter or is injured in any way from your creation, then you can be liable for damages. And third, approximately 100 motorists are killed every year in collisions with rural mailboxes. Some residents construct mailboxes with indestructible supports. In a collision, a motor vehicle can be severely damaged and it occupants severely injured or killed.

{jumi [/modules/RMB-05.php]}

Installing a heavy-duty reinforced mail box will go a long ways in helping to reduce mail box vandalism in many areas.

The USPS (United States Postal Service) has issued mailbox regulations regarding residential mailboxes and mail delivery. Mailbox requirements are designed to standardize the mail receptacle, mail delivery and pickup.

There are regulations regarding curbside mailboxes. A curbside mailbox can be one of three size for residential mail:-

Small T1 (C1)size is approximately 5 inches wide by 6 inches tall and 18 ½ inches long.

Medium T2 (C2) size is approximately 6 inches wide by 7 inches tall by 19 inches long.

Large T3 (C3) size is approximately 8 inches wide by 11 ½ inches tall by 22 ½ inches long.

The “T” stands for Traditional and the “C” stands for Contemporary. The dimensions reflect the minimum interior size.

The curbside mailbox post should be positioned 6-8 inches from the curb and approximately 42-46 inches high measured from the lawn to the top of the installed curbside mailbox, not the top of the post. If the post has a vertical arm, the arm should not extend any closer than 6 inches from the curb. When installing your new set, make sure your set complies with these regulations.

Be cautious when building your own mailbox and post. Approximately 100 motorists are killed yearly in collisions with curbside mailboxes. Some posts are mounted in concrete or constructed of indestructible materials. In a collision, a motor vehicle can be severely damaged and its occupants injured or killed.

The USPS does not have rules or regulations for wall mount mailboxes, however, you should notify your local mail carrier before installation to ensure proper placement of the mailbox and check for any local codes or regulations governing placement of the mailbox. The product should operate easily and nothing should obstruct the opening and closing of the lid. Also check with your home owners association to see if they have any rules or requirements which you need to comply with.
